The Muscle

So what do you get when you mix an old sketch, hints of the late, great Telly Savalas, Ving Rhames, and a 50's era longshormen?
This guy, I suppose.
I just started painting and this is what eventually sorted itself out. Reminds me of some kind of goon from the gangster pictures from the 40's, maybe I'll paint his boss sometime.
Thanks for stopping by,
M

Brawler

Here's a little sketch of some kind of tough guy, not much to it other than it being a random doodle...
He became the basis of a painting, soon to follow.

The Iron Horse

And here's the finished art.
I wanted to keep the blog as pretty much sketch, concept stage art, but what the heck.
I thought an early evening light would be appropriate.
This one's for my Grandfather,
'Night.

The Iron Horse

I've always wanted to do a painting of Lou Gehrig, one of my all time favorite ballplayers.
Here's the pencil...

Behemoth

The companion character to the Gatekeeper, I thought I'd leave the head in shadow and let the imagination play with what he might look like. I anticipate he might need some physio work on the left shoulder after lugging around that big rocky club hand...
Thanks for dropping by.

Gatekeeper

When I finished sketching this little guy it struck me how put upon he looks, carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. A not so sublte nod to the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and another in the strange line of creatures I've been drawing for the heck of it, and in keeping with the organic/rocky mix of elements.
I redrew the left hand/claw thing a few times, and I'm none too happy with it. Oh well.
Back to the drawing board.

Bed Bug

I've been doodling a lot with ball point pen, and here's one of the results. Once it's down it's down, so there's no fixing the stuff that needs fixing, which is what I like about sketching with pen.
I'm not crazy about how he/she/it turned out, but hey, it is what it is.
Thanks for dropping by.

For the fun of it

Here's a little guy inspired by rock formations, and many eyed spiders.
There ya go.

Vampire Study #2

Just an excuse to paint a vampire with a gold tooth...
The 2nd in the little vamp series, they were all created from the same pencil sketch, with three very different outcomes, for better or for worse.
There ya go.

Mr. Teeth

Well, I'm long overdue in getting some work online, so welcome to my blog. I'll be posting sketches and paintings for the next while as I ramp up for the launch of my website. I've been doing lots of work for myself lately and just enjoying putting a lot of my interests to paper, hence the sci-fi twist you see here. This guy evolved into some kind of a vampire who doesn't leave much to chance as far as his intent with those teeth...Pencil + Photoshop.
